Trench Crowdfund project

Back in 1997 I got a Honours Degree in Geographical and Land Information Management. A subject relating to Geographical Information Systems; which I also studied. When I describe this to people, I use the story of Dr John Snow and the 1854 Broad Street Cholera Epidemic of London https://youtube.com/watch?v=lNjrAXGRda4… 

You tube video by Harvard online c. 8 mins long. There are a few other videos a little shorter and just as informative.  Snow was a cleaver physician, using what ever tools around him, at the time, to answer questions to issues that Killed 100s of people.

 

We will, of course, be using modern technologies to develop ‘Trench’ The Great War Project and Map Leicester 2500. Continuing to find ways to capture, store, check Databases, analyse and display data that is spatially referenced to the Earth. By ‘Paying History Forward’, #PayHistoryForward there is no reason why we cant work together as a group of Family, Social and Military History, obsessed, people… Who don’t mind falling down any old ‘Rabbit hole’.

Over the next few weeks, I will be demonstrating some of the things I have already done… Some of the things I’m currently working on and the things I hope we can achieve together. In the Autumn, I intend to put together a number of Workshops that cover Family and Social History & or Military based Workshops. This will coincide with a number of more Citizens History, #CitizensHistory style workshops for a bit of checking transcribing OCR etc.

There are some data sets I would like to analyse for current projects like Map Leicester 2500 a project running along with the 4th Bn Leicestershire Regiment, the 1st 1000 men. Early next year, if the workshops in the Autumn go to plan, I hope to set up others, like Map Derby 2500, Map Lincoln 2500 or Map London 2500 as a community of like minded people anywhere goes, it is our project!

The significance of 2500, certainly for Leicester, is I would like to find 2500 ‘Friends’ over the next 12 months to help me do this! Currently, there is me! So if there are 2500 pages to transcribe, I will be doing all of them myself – My sister says she will help, so I only have to do 1250. If I can find 2 more people to help, I only have to do 625 pages… You get the picture!

To make this project a success and to eventually set up a small business and possibly create a future Community Interest Company.  I ask for support in the coming weeks. I will need hardware, Professional/Specialist advise, whether legal or technical support, web &tool development &drawings to cover a couple of months set up. I intend to launch a Crowdfund Project.

The support I ask for, comes in many forms. No matter how small – a click, a like, an engagement in conversation or sharing, help me to improve my social presence and if you can add a little to the crowdfund the would also be much appreciated.
