‘WW1 Soldiers – Private Blogs’ a platform created to illustrate the common soldier of the First World War… Tommy ATKINS. It is believable that every man, woman and child was affected in some way during 1914 – 1918 and possibly well into the 1920s. However, who are these men and woman who left this fair Country to serve in some capacity in ‘foreign fields’.
I am reasonably sure that somewhere in all our family histories, we may have a relative, known or not, that played some part in the First World War. It may be a great Uncle, a Great Great Grandfather or even a Great Great Grandmother.
In the first instance, the research described here in the following ‘Blogs’ are my own Grandfathers. The details I provide will, hopefully, give help to you liked minded people; enabling you to understand their locations, timelines, War Office forms, abbreviations, problems and conclusions, etc.
The men described in the first instance are Privates Leonard LABAND, Leicestershire Regiment and George W. SIBLEY, Lancashire Fusiliers.
